Bihor Peak, officially Curcubăta Mare, is the highest point of the Apuseni Mountains at 1849 m. A short drive from Arieșeni, the summit offers a breathtaking 360° panorama over the Vlădeasa and Crișana ranges, and on clear days as far as Hungary.
What is Bihor Peak?
Bihor Peak is the highest summit of the Apuseni Mountains and of Bihor County. It rises above a wide plateau of dwarf pine and alpine meadows — wildflowers in summer, pristine snow in winter. A tall metal cross and a radio relay mark the top and act as reference points for hikers.
How do you get there?
From Cabana de Sub Deal the peak is about 22 km away. The drive takes roughly 35 minutes along DN75 and a well-kept forestry road, up to near the summit. The final stretch is a 30-minute walk on a marked trail.
How long does the visit take?
A full round trip from the cabin takes 3 to 5 hours. Start early for the clearest air and best panorama, then still have time for lunch or another activity in the area.
